Residential Design Process

Schematic Design (Conceptual)

After an introductory meeting at our office, we will then visit your site to discuss in greater detail your project. Owner should have a written description of spaces and examples (pictures) of particular wants and desires for the look of the finished project. We will then design one or several alternatives for the conceptual layouts and elevations (proposed concept) and present to you in a second site visit. Additional iterations to finalize the design maybe necessary.


Design Development

Once the concept is agreed to, we will firm up the design with more accurate layouts, building sections and elevations with materials and dimensions noted. We will also verify that code issues are resolved. This finalizes the scope of the project


Construction and Permit Drawings

These drawings gives client high degree of specificity and always includes architectural and structural plans, building sections, elevations with all dimensions, notes and details for permit.


If you want higher degree of detail, the following can be included:

  • Electrical layout and switching plans
  • Cabinetry, counters and case work elevations and layout
  • Fixtures locations and types
  • Electrical and plumbing fixture product selection
  • Interior and exterior color schemes
  • Construction observation
  • We be available to answer questions, resolve field conflicts

Basic Site visits:

  • Foundation inspection before concrete pour and once during framing
  • For additional site visits can be per contract basis

Solar & Sustainable Architecture

We will assist you in deciding which of the sustainable concepts and strategies make sense for you to use in your home or business. This can be done on a hourly basis to determine the concepts or integrated within the design of the new home or business.

Sustainability could simply mean designing a “Not so Big House” to integrating capturing the sun with house orientation and solar collectors to simply using greener and recycled materials. Read more…
